Autodesk have announced new certifications for graduates who are looking to secure their first design job. The Autodesk Certified User program gives graduates an opportunity to validate their Inventor design skills which could prove invaluable when competing for entry level jobs.

Joe Astroth, chief education officer at Autodesk goes on to say:

“Whether during the college application process or a job search, students are often looking for ways to set themselves apart from their peers and gain a leg up on the competition. Our Certified User program provides validation of their skills and helps them continue their pursuit of careers in design.”

For recent design graduates it may well be worth looking into this certification.

We've just learned that Autodesk are looking for Mac users to join in their CAD research study. It seems Autodesk are keen to bring their CAD tools to the Apple Mac industry, and as such need volunteers to support their ongoing development work.

If you're an Apple Mac user and frequently work with CAD tools such as Inventor or AutoCAD then Autodesk would be interested in hearing from you.

You'd be asked to give up 1 hour of your time and will involve testing some pre-release features, answering questions, and giving feedback. You'll be working on a 1 to 1 basis with an Autodesk developer. As a thank you for your time you'll receive a £40 Amazon voucher.

To qualify for this research study you'll first need to complete a survey to ensure you're right for the job:

Autodesk Survey

Good luck.

Solid People - 3D CAD Recruitment Specialists

Autodesk have announced the imminent release of AutoCAD WS for use on the Android platform. This should prove to be a very useful product for those looking to edit, view and share their CAD data on the move.

Tal Weiss, AutoCAD WS software development manager from Autodesk goes on to say:

“Architects, engineers and designers have clearly communicated that they want access to their AutoCAD projects on their Android devices and we are more than happy to meet their needs. The impressive and consistent growth of the Android ecosystem serves as an excellent platform for Autodesk to further expand its accessibility through AutoCAD WS. Now our customers with Android smartphones and tablets can use AutoCAD WS to collaborate with colleagues in the field, and across the globe, on a wider variety of mobile devices.”

AutoCAD WS users will be able to use intuitive mark-up tools, open CAD drawings from email attachments, upload CAD drawings through the integrated online tab, synchronise files from the web and save CAD drawings locally.

AutoCAD WS for Android will be available for download from the Android Market from the 20th April 2011. For further information click the below link:

Record Breaking Sales for SpaceClaim in 2010

Arguably the leader in Direct 3D Modeling, SpaceClaim, have announced their 2010 results and they make for interesting reading. It's clear that SpaceClaim achieved rapid growth in 2010 trippling their sales from the previous year and securing high profile clients such as LG Electronics and Tyco Electronics.

SpaceClaim may not be the household name that say SolidWorks or Inventor are, however, these results show that they're steadily picking up market share as companies buy in to their USP.

Chris Randles, SpaceClaim President and CEO goes on to say:

“SpaceClaim software is enabling a fundamental shift in large engineering organizations, we are enabling cross-functional engineering teams to rapidly develop and test new 3D product concepts before committing to costly and expensive detailed design in CAD. While release to CAD is still the usual last step before manufacturing, SpaceClaim is allowing teams to explore and make vital design decisions quicker, faster and with a lower total cost-of-ownership. Engineers are finding that SpaceClaim’s 3D Direct Modeling software is fast, flexible, and CAD-neutral – most importantly, our engineering users are reporting that it is much easier to learn and use than traditional CAD tools. These customer outcomes fueled our very rapid growth in 2010, which was another record year for us. We anticipate similar growth trends in 2011 as we continue to attract more customers, OEMs and resellers.”

If you've not heard of or taken a look at SpaceClaim before then it's certainly worth checking out their website and watching some demo's on Youtube. It may not be a direct replacement for CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Inventor, however it could certainly support the front end creative element of your design process.

SpaceClaim

One of the industry leaders in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software Siemens PLM has launched a mobile app for its Teamcenter product. With Teamcenter being arguably the most widely used PLM solution, its users will now be able to instantly access and manage data remotely and at any time where Wi-Fi or mobile broadband is available.

Joe Barkai, Practice Director, Product Lifecycle Strategies, IDC Manufacturing Insights goes on to say:

“Due to their accelerated worldwide adoption and their role as a company’s single source of all product and process knowledge, PLM systems have become a competitive necessity for the global manufacturing community. However, in order to effectively leverage this vast pool of information for fast and intelligent decision making, it needs to be made instantly available to all stakeholders in the product lifecycle process at the point of activity that decisions are made. Teamcenter Mobility helps make valuable product knowledge much more accessible to a significantly broader audience of users throughout the extended enterprise.”

This mobile Teamcenter product is available for immediate download and will enable the user to display, search and interact with detailed product information allowing 'on the move' decision making.

For further information please follow the below link:

Siemens PLM Teamcenter Mobile

Solid People Ltd - 3D CAD Recruitment Specialists
